SC Issues contempt notice to MQM Chief Altfa Hussain
Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday issued notice to Altaf Hussain, the chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, over his remarks against the judiciary rally in Karachi.
The court said that the world, used by Hussain in his speech, were contemptuous.
The apex court issued the notice during hearing of Haji Adeel's petition and directed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to provide the transcript of his speech.
MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and the deputy convener of the party's Rabita Committee Dr Farooq Sattar, who is also a Member of National Assembly (MNA), were summoned by the court on Jan 7.
In the speech, broadcast to more than 38 cities in Pakistan, the MQM chief had said that the new delimitation of constituencies was being done to break the MQM vote bank.
Mr. Hussain said that remarks of a judge that delimitation should be done in such a way that no one has monopoly, could be harmful for the country.
